Robert Tercek’s book Vaporized is the definitive analysis of the most powerful force that is shaping the 21st century economy: dematerialization. Entire categories of physical products, and the companies that make and sell them, have been replaced by software.
In 2016, Vaporized was celebrated as the International Book of the Year at the Frankfurt Book Fair by the editors of GetAbstract. Tercek’s book was selected as the winner from a field of 10,000 competing business titles.
To introduce the concept of dematerialization, Tercek builds on his personal experience working at the forefront of the digital transformation of the print, music, television and other media industries. Big Media took the first blows dealt by the rise of digital technology. One by one, once-tangible goods such as music CDs and video DVDs were “vaporized”, or replaced by digital data. Soon many other industries followed. Tercek’s book is a chronicle of this transformation.
