I’ve joined the Oprah Winfrey Network

October 21st, 2008 · 10 Comments · General Observations

Those who’ve heard my public speeches know that I am passionate about the leveraging digital networks to multiply the creative power of individual people.  Two or more people working on the same problem can achieve great results, even if they are geographically dispersed.  Beginning November 2008, I will get an incredible opportunity to apply this concept on a big scale.    I’ve joined the Oprah Winfrey Network as the President of Digital Media.

I am energized.    This is a terrific opportunity to work with superb professionals at OWN, Harpo, Oprah.com and Discovery Communications.   I am deeply grateful to every person who has fostered my growth and helped me along the way to this great opportunity.

Here’s the announcement on Yahoo Finance.

    Congrats Bob!

Now will be the time to figure out what are the intrinsic challenges in integrating the two media segments with popular long-form content (Oprah shows) and how to sustain interest among viewers through a 60 min long property in web and mobile platforms.

As you have talked earlier, the 2nd screen exponentially increases the opportunity for the networks and producers to reach out with same property but repeated hits. It is a different usage habit considering the demographics who watch Oprah’s show. I hope you find the right mix of strategy and tactics to engage such users with intelligent content that has more value than a pure sitcom or dancing with the stars!! :)

    Goodluck.

Robert– Check out the About page of my blog, Give4Global.com. Love to discuss an idea for mobilizing US teens behind 3rd world microcredit initiatives…becoming better citizens of their own country by being more aware citizens of the world
